Legislative Update: June 16-18
Last week’s big news from Harrisburg is the passage of House Bill 1364, a proposal to fund mass transit systems and transportation projects across the commonwealth. It’s not just funding public transit, but also about additional funding for road and bridge repairs and maintenance. And it would fund these projects without raising taxes.
Even if you don’t ride public transit, transit affects you – funding transit means more money in our communities, more people on the job, and safer commutes for everyone. Show your support by demanding action from the PA Senate to fund mass transit across Pennsylvania.
Protecting Birthing Moms Throughout PA
On Monday, I joined my colleagues in the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus for a news conference highlighting our MOMNIBUS bill package that promises to reshape and improve access to medical care and support for pregnant and postpartum mothers. The maternal health crisis in Pennsylvania disproportionately affects Black women and families, and these bills carry forward past policy reformation around maternal healthcare.
Grand Reopening for Crazy Aaron’s
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand reopening of The Shop @ Crazy Aaron’s on Main Street in Norristown. Their new flagship store offers an exclusive selection of Crazy Aaron’s putty and dough. The store promises a fun and interactive experience, make sure you stop by!
Immigrant Rights and Resources with ACLAMO
Later Wednesday night, I hosted a panel with ACLAMO, HIAS, and the Montgomery County Office of Immigration Affairs to help community members understand their rights in the face of an ICE encounter. I truly hope participants went home feeling strengthened by new knowledge to help themselves or their neighbors in these unprecedented times.
Celebrating at the Norristown Juneteenth Jubilee
I proudly participated in the vibrant celebration of Juneteenth alongside my Norristown community at the annual Juneteenth Jubilee. It is always a cherished honor to participate in the day’s festivities each year! This year’s celebration featured live music, cultural exhibits, family-friendly activities, and a dynamic vendor marketplace. We saw over 2,000 attendees! Thank you to everyone who came out to the Jubilee in support of culture, diversity, and freedom here in Montgomery County.
