Get Updated with Greg: Making moves toward prohibiting PFAS chemicals, IVF in PA, and the new Josh Culbreath Boulevard!

Hi Neighbor!

Last week I was back in Harrisburg working hard to advance legislation that works for our community. In this edition of “Get Updated with Greg,” read about

  • My PFAS bill that advanced from committee
  • How my House colleagues and I are approaching IVF access in PA
  • A meeting the Legislative Latino Caucus had with Attorney General Dave Sunday

Spring is finally here, and my district team made the most of it by getting out and about in the community. Read on to learn more about

  • A community cleanup of Norristown
  • The renaming of Coolidge Boulevard in honor of Olympian Josh Culbreath
  • My upcoming events

As always, my office is dedicated to serving the residents of the 54th District by providing accessible services, expanding meaningful partnerships, and advocating for community-based initiatives.

ADVANCING NEW STANDARDS FOR PFAS

This week the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee voted unanimously to advance legislation I helped write, House Bill 1261. The bill now moves out of committee for consideration by the full House of Representatives. Under this bill, manufacturers of firefighting gear will be required to include a warning label on the gear, and to notify the purchaser in writing if the product contains toxic PFAS chemicals. PFAS are known to cause many health issues, including cancer.

ACCESSING FERTILITY CARE IN PA

When I’m in Harrisburg I don’t only vote on legislation in the House chamber. I’m also a member of several committees tasked with researching, discussing, and shaping proposed bills that we hope to one day pass into law. Our PA House Insurance Committee held an informational meeting on April 23 called “Putting Families First: Infertility Care in Pennsylvania,” to open up the conversation about ensuring we have access to quality reproductive care for people struggling with IVF and infertility.

PA Legislative Latino Caucus and Visiting Latino College Students

The PA Legislative Latino Caucus had the opportunity this week to meet with Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday to discuss issues important to our immigrant community members. The goal was to ensure we have the lines of communication open between our law enforcement officers and everyone who lives in our community.  And Latino students from Shippensburg University visited the Capitol to interact with Latino lawmakers and learn about the legislative process.

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

In honor of Earth Week, my district office team joined the staff of State Senator Amanda Cappelletti and volunteers from Theatre Horizon for a clean up of downtown Norristown. The sun was high, the sky was blue, and we gave our town a little sparkle.

HONORING OLYMPIAN JOSH CULBREATH

Throughout the 1950s, Josh Culbreath, a Norristown native, was a track and field Olympic medalist, local and world record holder, and hall of famer, mostly for the 400-meter hurdles. He was also a Marine, coach, and mentor. My Chief of Staff, Buck Jones, joined the Norristown Municipal Council, executives from the Elmwood Park Zoo, and local officials to celebrate the renaming of Coolidge Boulevard at the intersection with Harding Boulevard, to Josh Culbreath Boulevard.
