Plymouth Township is pleased to announce a new planning partnership with the Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC), approved by Township Council at its January 12, 2026, public meeting.

This partnership reflects Council’s desire to take a more strategic and comprehensive approach to redevelopment and land use planning, while also being responsive to residents’ concerns about increased development through a coordinated and transparent process.

Through this agreement, Plymouth Township will have the opportunity to work with professional planners from MCPC to explore a range of planning initiatives. These efforts can include:

• Reviewing development applications and ordinance amendments under the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code
• Assisting with updates to the Township’s Comprehensive Plan
• Conducting land use studies for areas experiencing change, including office, mall, and industrial areas
• Supporting zoning and subdivision ordinance updates
• Providing professional planning guidance at public meetings

All land use decisions, zoning changes, and development approvals remain under the authority of Plymouth Township’s elected officials and boards through public meetings and hearings. The role of MCPC is advisory and technical in nature.

Emerging Land Uses, Including Data Centers

Township Council has not made any decision regarding whether data centers, or other emerging land uses, should be permitted in Plymouth Township, or under what conditions. That question remains open.

One of the goals of this partnership is to ensure that complex land use issues are evaluated carefully, objectively, and with public input before policy decisions are made. By engaging independent professional planners, the Township can:

• Understand infrastructure and environmental considerations
• Evaluate land use compatibility and community impacts
• Ensure compliance with state law
• And develop policies that reflect community priorities

This partnership strengthens Plymouth Township’s ability to manage growth responsibly and thoughtfully, while preserving the community character residents value.
