Since 2009, the Plymouth Township Police Department has been a part of the Montgomery County Special Weapons and Tactics Team- Central Region (MSWAT-CR). MSWAT-CR is comprised of approximately 53 officers representing 17 different police departments and provides highly specialized tactical services to 24 municipalities throughout Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

The Plymouth Township Police Department currently assigns seven members to MSWAT-CR. These personnel include four entry team members responsible for tactical operations during critical incidents and high-risk warrant services, one trained sniper who provides overwatch and intelligence gathering, one hostage negotiator, and one member serving within the team’s Command Staff as Deputy Commander.

MSWAT-CR members receive specialized and ongoing training to respond to high-risk law enforcement situations throughout the region, including barricaded persons, hostage rescue operations, and high-risk search and arrest warrants. Training regularly includes advanced firearms and close-quarters combat in facilities such as FBI shoot houses, breaching techniques, tactical movement, sniper/observer operations, and hostage rescue scenarios. These training programs ensure team members maintain the skills and readiness necessary to safely and effectively respond to critical incidents.
