What’s going on in Harrisburg?

Last week I had a packed schedule in Harrisburg. We began budget hearings in Harrisburg, which play a huge role in guiding us as we begin working on the 2025-2026 state budget.

I also attended policy hearings on important issues for our community, including protecting our schools from lead. Schools should be centers of learning – safe environments where young people can grow, thrive, and prepare for their futures. They should never be places where families have to worry about the safety of their drinking water due to outdated lead pipes contaminating the supply.

In 2022, more than 7,000 children in Pennsylvania were found to have elevated blood lead levels. This alarming statistic should serve as a wake-up call and a demand for action.

Over the past several years, we have invested millions of dollars in upgrading aging school infrastructure and addressing hazards like lead contamination. These efforts are making a difference, and we remain committed to ensuring that every student has access to a safe and healthy learning environment in the years to come.

Today in the Policy Committee, we discussed the use of AI and how it affects schools and the educational environment. AI, is increasingly becoming a concern for not just adults, but our middle and high school students.

AI technology can easily be misused, and explicit images can be created without consent. These images are referred to as “deepfakes” and can be used to harass and bully students.

We should be protecting not only our students and holding those who use artificial intelligence accountable. AI can be an amazing tool, but it can also be a dangerous weapon.

Black History Month is still going strong!

Back in the district we are still proudly celebrating Black History Month. On Sunday I was at Mt. Zion AME Church for an awesome Black History Month Segment!

On Saturday i was that the Greater Plymouth Community Center for a Black Heritage Day Celebration where we discussed Black labor history and its impact on the economy.

I also had the honor of celebrating Black History Month alongside Mayor of Conshohocken Yaniv Aronson and Conshohocken Borough Council Members. We presented citations in recognition of Black History to Pastor Bertha Johnson of The Historic St. John A.M.E. Church.

Request a Review of Denied Health Insurance Claims

If you believe your health insurer wrongly denied a claim, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department may be able to help.

Pennsylvania consumers with commercial health insurance can now ask for a review of denied health insurance claims. The Independent External Review allows you to share why your request should be covered. If the independent review organization decides the care should be covered, the consumer’s health insurer must cover the care.
