Montco receives Triple-A bond rating for sixth straight year

Montgomery County is proud to announce we have received the highest bond rating—Aaa with a stable outlook—from Moody’s Investors Service for the sixth year in a row.

This rating confirms the financial state of our County remains strong and will help us continue to ensure that, when public money is spent, it is able to make the greatest possible impact for our residents.

Get free COVID-19 & flu vaccines at Montco vaccination clinics

Our Office of Public Health has joined with the Centers for Disease Control in encouraging all residents 6 months of age and older to get their annual flu shot and the new COVID-19 vaccine this fall!

Free flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines will be offered at five OPH Community Vaccination Clinics located around the County starting Oct. 18. Walk-ins will be accepted but appointments are highly encouraged.

Insurance will be billed for those who have coverage.

Montco welcomes PA Dept. of Drug & Alcohol Programs Secretary Dr. Davis-Jones!

Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones visited our County last month as part of her ongoing effort to address the opioid and overdose crises affecting communities across the Commonwealth.

During her visit, Dr. Davis-Jones engaged with members of our Department of Health and Human Services team as well as substance use disorder (SUD) treatment providers and recovery organizations, health care providers, elected officials, and other stakeholders.

Her goal was to gather feedback, share best practices, and strengthen partnerships, all of which can help to save lives and reduce the devastating impact of substance use disorders here in Montgomery County.

Upcoming: Veterans Resource Fair

The Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds team is hosting a Veterans Resource Fair at our Human Services Center in Norristown on Oct. 10.

Veterans and caregivers can stop by from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to meet with representatives from a variety of local and state resources, including:

– Voter Services

– Veterans Affairs

– Senior Services

– and many more

Montgomery County will host our final Household Hazardous Waste Collection event of the season coming up on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Lower Merion Transfer Station in Penn Valley.

The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. While it is free, registration is required to attend.

Please note, no TVs, monitors or other electronics will be accepted.

Additionally, this event is only for residents so please no contractors or businesses.

Recognize National Week Without Driving this October!

National Week Without Driving is scheduled for Oct. 2-8!

This first-of-its-kind week is intended to highlight sustainable modes of transportation while also spotlighting equity for people with disabilities who can’t drive (the origin of the week), challenges for low-income households who cannot afford a car, healthier transportation choices, and mobility options for children and teens.

Help needed: Code Blue Shelter in Plymouth Meeting

Heads up: The Code Blue Emergency Shelter located at the Church on the Mall in Plymouth Meeting has put a call out for volunteers to help staff the shelter this winter.

Shelters like this one play a critical role during winter months, giving individuals experiencing homelessness a safe place to go when temperatures drop to dangerous levels.

Volunteer roles include shelter monitoring and laundry and cleaning.
