Emergency Rental Assistance, Medicare Counseling, Heat Safety, and More

Emergency rent/utility assistance is available

The federal moratorium on evictions is set to be lifted on July 31. Please remember that help with rent and utility bills remains available for anyone affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Montgomery County, the rent and utility relief program is administered by Your Way Home.

More details, including eligibility information and partner organizations that can help, are available here. Interested individuals also can call 2-1-1 or text-message their ZIP code to 898-211 for more information.

Medicare counseling has a new name in PA
Pennsylvania’s Medicare counseling program, formerly called APPRISE, has a new name – PA MEDI (PA Medicare Education and Decision Insight).

The program will continue to provide free, valuable information to help Medicare-eligible individuals make informed decisions about health care.

More information is available here. Please call my office for more information, including details on how to schedule an appointment with a PA MEDI counselor.

MontcoStrong 2021 Nonprofit Resiliency Grant program

Applications will open July 19 for the MontcoStrong 2021 Nonprofit Resiliency Grant program, which supports non-profit businesses that were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of $5 million in funding is available. The application period closes Aug. 10.

Please note that there are differences from last year’s nonprofit grant program. Full details can be found on the program website.

Staying safe in the heat

Our region has seen extreme heat in recent weeks, so I wanted to share some resources for staying safe and cool when the temperatures are high.

Young children, older residents, and those with chronic medical conditions can be more at risk for injury or exhaustion from extreme heat – so check on neighbors and loved ones when you can.

Click here for tips from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, including information about the symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Montgomery County will declare a Code Red in extreme heat situations. Information on Montgomery County’s extreme weather plans is available here.
