Fighting for Your Healthcare, Safer Roads & Community Resources

PA Representative Greg Scott banner image

Hi neighbor!

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Get Updated with Greg”!

The Affordable Care Act has saved lives, protected people, and grown our economy here in

Montgomery County. But the ACA is under constant attack. I voted to make sure your healthcare is between you and your doctor – and nobody else.

The four bills in our Protecting Your Care package makes sure you’re covered.

  • The Health Insurance Protections Against Limitations Act makes sure your lifetime coverage actually lasts a lifetime – insurance companies can’t simply decide your illness or injury is too expensive and refuse to cover any more care (H.B. 535).
  • The Health Insurance for Young Adults Act allows young adults just starting their careers without access to insurance to stay on their parents’ plans until age 26. With one-in-six young adults having a chronic condition and any young adult being susceptible to illness or injury, this will make a real difference (H.B. 404).
  • The Health Insurance Access Protection Act makes sure an insurance company cannot cancel your coverage or send your rates skyrocketing for a pre-existing condition (H.B. 618).
  • The Health Insurance Preventive Services Coverage Act keeps you healthy today and allows screening for health care issues that could arise tomorrow (H.B. 755).

There are a half-million Pennsylvanians who finally have affordable health insurance via the ACA and our Pennie exchange. I’m proud to fight for them and their families – and our economy with health care jobs that you can’t outsource.

YOU can join the fight to defend affordable care – add your voice and urge the

State Senate to act!

Bill Signing with Gov. Shapiro

I’m excited to share that Gov. Josh Shapiro has signed my bill, H.B. 2426, into law. Now known as Act 150 of 2024, this law makes license plate flipping devices—often used to evade tolls and law enforcement—illegal across Pennsylvania.

These devices have no place on our roads, and this new law closes a dangerous loophole to improve safety and accountability for all Pennsylvanians. This is a big step forward for public safety, and I’m proud to have worked with my colleagues to get it across the finish line.

As always, you can also follow me on socials, FacebookInstagram, and X (previously Twitter), to keep up to date on when I post legislative, community, PennDOT, and weather updates.  Please feel free to pass this update along to friends throughout our community, so they can keep in touch, too.

PA’s Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit

Filing your taxes? Have child or dependent care expenses? You might qualify for up to $2,100 BACK IN YOUR POCKET!

I’m reminding eligible residents to take advantage of Pennsylvania’s Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit while doing your personal income taxes by April 15. This credit, expanded under a law I voted for, provides financial relief to working families with child or dependent care expenses.

The PA Department of Revenue encourages filing through myPATH, Pennsylvania’s free online tax filing system. You can find more information about the tax credit here or contact my office.

MCIU Education Panel

I had an amazing time learning from the bright young minds of Montgomery County at a recent event hosted by Children’s First. I met future cardio-thoracic surgeons, fashion designers, teachers, and more—a reminder that our future is in great hands with these incredible young leaders.

A big thank you to Children’s First for the invite and to my colleagues, state Sen. Maria Collett, state Rep. Joe Ciresi, and Rafia from state Rep. Cerrato’s office for letting me join them. It was truly inspiring to see the passion and ambition of the next generation!

25th Anniversary of the Plymouth Community Center

Over the weekend, I had the honor of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Plymouth Community Center alongside local leaders, residents, and community members. The center has been a vital hub for recreation, education, and connection in our community for the past 25 years, providing a space for people of all ages to come together and thrive.

It was great to reflect on its impact and celebrate the investments that continue to make Plymouth Township a great place to live. I look forward to seeing the center serve our community for many more years to come!

CCATE – Centro de Cultura Arte Trabajo y Educacion on Community Assembly on Socio-Emotional Well-Being & Mental Health

I was honored to join CCATE’s Community Assembly on Socio-Emotional Well-Being & Mental Health to hear directly from the community about the challenges and solutions surrounding mental health. This important event brought together experts, advocates, and community members for a powerful conversation about emotional well-being.

Listening to personal stories and collaborating on ideas reinforced the need for continued advocacy and support. A huge thank you to CCATE for hosting this meaningful discussion and for their dedication to uplifting the voices of our community. I look forward to working together to ensure mental health remains a priority in our legislative efforts.

Request a Review of Denied Health Insurance Claims

If you believe your health insurer wrongly denied a claim, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department may be able to help.

Pennsylvania consumers with commercial health insurance can now ask for a review of denied health insurance claims. The Independent External Review allows you to share why your request should be covered. If the independent review organization decides the care should be covered, the consumer’s health insurer must cover the care.
