Hi Neighbor!

It’s finally June, and that means I’ll be away representing you in Harrisburg a lot this month as my colleagues and I work to pass the 2025-2026 state budget. Enjoy the weather at home, the last weeks of school, and the start of summer vacations – and keep an eye out for new editions of this eblast with updates out of the Capitol each week.

In this week’s edition of Get Updated with Greg, read about:

  • Our successful Veterans Discount ID clinic
  • A rally for Whole Foods workers
  • Thanks for a great Memorial Day
  • A new traffic law going into effect June 5
  • Father’s Day nominations
  • Protecting your SNAP and TANF benefits
  • Better access to the GED

Warmest regards,

Thank you for a successful Veterans Discount ID Clinic!

Thank you to all of you who came to our Veterans Discount ID Clinic on Friday! We were able to help veterans from across Montgomery County obtain ID cards for discounts at Montgomery County merchants, and connect them with health, legal, and advocacy services in the area. It was an honor to bring this service to you and to work with the Montgomery County Recorder of Deed and American Legion Post 39 to make it happen.

Rally for Whole Foods Workers

Last week, I attended a rally for Whole Foods workers and UFCW 1776 in Philadelphia. Whole Foods and Amazon workers were rallying against poor management tactics and I and some of my House and Senate colleagues went to show our support for the betterment of their treatment.

A Reflective Memorial Day

On Monday, I attended a local Memorial Day ceremony and celebration, and was moved to see how our community came together to remember those we’ve lost. Thank you to our local governments and community organizations for putting together events that bring us together as neighbors and friends.

New Traffic Law Goes into Effect June 5

On June 5, law enforcement will start pulling over drivers using hand-held mobile devices while operating a vehicle – even if you’re paused in traffic or stopped at a red light. Paul Miller’s Law protects us all from distracted driving – put down the phone and keep your eyes on the road!

Protect Your SNAP and TANF Benefits from Theft

We’ve recently seen an increase in SNAP and TANF benefits being stolen by card skimming. In response, the PA Department of Human Services and Office of the State Inspector General have launched a new security feature that allows you to lock your benefits card. You’ll need to download the free ConnectEBT app for iPhone or Android to lock your card when you’re not using it, and to unlock it when you want to make a purchase.

Users can choose to lock their card everywhere or only outside Pennsylvania. An optional auto re-lock feature adds even more protection.

DHS encourages all EBT cardholders to:

•             Download the ConnectEBT app.

•             Use the locking feature regularly.

•             Change their PIN monthly.

If benefits are stolen, recipients should report it to law enforcement and the OSIG Fraud Hotline (1-800-932-0582) and request a new card by calling 1-888-328-7366.

Learn more about this feature, how to spot skimming devices, and how to protect your benefits at www.dhs.pa.gov/scams.

Improving Your Access to High School Equivalency

The Pennsylvania Department of Education announced that high school equivalency exams such as the HiSET and GED tests are now available to eligible Pennsylvanians free of charge. The coverage is on a first-come, first-served basis, so take advantage of it now!
