Get Updated with Greg: Supporting birth and newborns, plus help with your property tax rebate
Hi Neighbor!
Last week I ventured out to the Pittsburgh area for the Black Maternal Health Week Summit, a three-day conference organized by my fellow Reps. and PA Black Maternal Health Caucus co-chairs La’Tasha D. Mayes, D-Allegheny, Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, and Morgan B. Cephas, D-Philadelphia. The Caucus is a strong group of lawmakers dedicated to passing legislation that will better support prenatal, birthing, and postpartum moms, especially in areas where access to maternal health care services is limited. The week included kickoff events as well as two policy hearings on the need for access to midwives and doulas, maternal health deserts, and newborn support.
As a proud member of the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus and as a father, I was proud to see the support these initiatives received during the conference this week.

HARRISBURG UPDATE: POLICY HEARINGS IN WESTERN PA
The Policy Committee hosted three hearings while in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, and I had the opportunity to participate in all three. On day one, we heard about how the life sciences fuel the state economy and the need for specialized training for workforce development. On day two, we discussed the need for modern midwife services to mitigate high maternal death rates. And on day three, we got an inside look at a Pittsburgh nonprofit (see below!) working hard to make sure all babies are well fed, after a roundtable discussion about newborn support.
LEARNING ON THE GROUND
While in Western PA, I had the opportunity to tour Beverly’s PGH, a nonprofit serving seven counties by providing basics for babies and formula banks. The maternal health legislation backed by the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus includes a bill to model this kind of support for newborns statewide.
IN THE 54TH DISTRICT: PLAY BALL!
Earlier this month I had the honor of presenting Plymouth Little League with a $100,000 celebratory check to support major upgrades to their fields and facilities. This funding, secured through the Department of Community and Economic Development with the support of the House Appropriations Committee, is the result of teamwork between the league, my office, and state partners.
