Spread the Word: SEPTA’s Transition from Bus Letters to Numbers
Dear Community Leaders,
As you may have heard or seen on buses wrapped in graphics, on February 23, 2025, SEPTA will transition six bus routes from letters to numbers. This change is part of SEPTA’s broader effort to improve navigation and help riders find their way. We are seeking your assistance to ensure that SEPTA riders in your community are prepared for this important change.
Below we have provided a link to a Toolkit of Materials with ready-to-share resources, such as flyers and social media graphics. These materials are designed to help you inform your networks about the upcoming changes.
What’s Changing?
- Six lettered bus routes—G, H, J, L, R, and XH—will now use numbers. For example, Route G will become Route 63. SEPTA will display both the old letters and new numbers for a period of time to help riders adjust.
- The remaining lettered route, Bus Route K, will transition at a later date as part of a broader realignment with Route 26.
Why is SEPTA making this change?
- Most SEPTA bus routes already use numbers. Transitioning the remaining lettered routes will simplify the system and reduce confusion for riders.
- This change aligns with SEPTA’s Metro wayfinding project, which reserves letters for train routes and uses numbers for buses.
We hope you will help amplify this message by sharing the attached materials with your community through your networks, social media, or events. Your support ensures riders stay informed and prepared.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out at [email protected].
Thank you for your partnership in supporting this important transition.
Best regards,
The New Bus Network Team
