GPCC’s Outdoor Strength and Toning Workouts on the Back Patio

Not ready to bring your exercise routine indoors yet? Many of you have been walking, jogging and biking to keep yourself healthy but do you feel like you’re missing something? Starting August 3rd, the GPCC will be setting up 4 workout stations on the back patio so you can start up your strength training and toning exercises outdoors, and socially distance yourself. Masks are optional since it is outside and the stations are over 6 ft apart.

The stations will be set up Monday thru Wednesday from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm provided it is not raining and on days the lawn is being mowed. On inclement days if you were planning on using this area please call the front desk to see if the equipment is out. Days and times may be adjusted based on feedback.

Each station will be equipped with a mat and a stepper with risers that you can use as a bench or stepper. Equipment will be available in the middle of the patio for you to pick from and bring it back to your station. Equipment: DB up to 25lbs, stability balls, Bosu’s, medicine and slam balls, Lebert Bars. There will also be a battle rope set up, agility ladder and a couple of spin bikes. If you’re not sure of how to use the equipment, we’ll have posters with exercises showing you how to use them.

To access this area and use the equipment, all you need to do is have an active Pass, check in at the front desk each time you want to use it and walk through the atrium and out the back doors to the patio. (Must check in and get wrist band before use. Monitored by fitness staff).

The patio is in the sun for most of the day so bring plenty of water, apply lots of sunscreen, wear your sunglasses, and we suggest you bring a workout towel! Disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer will be available.

Updated Mask Requirements at the GPCC

The state of PA released a document on July 3rd, 2020 entitled Universal Face Coverings Order FAQ.  After reviewing this document, along with the mandate requiring face masks to be worn whenever anyone leaves home we have determined it is in the best interest of all our Pass Holders, participants, guests and staff that masks are mandatory entering the GPCC and in all common areas and must remain on for all activities and in the fitness center. The only exception is when you are ready to enter the pool, you may remove your mask while in your lane and place it back on as soon as you get out. If you have concerns about exercising with a mask on, see one of our Fitness Professionals.

We’ll continue to monitor any new guidelines or mandates released by the state and CDC so if restrictions are lifted or changed we will adjust to keep facility users and staff safe!

The GPCC staff is working hard to keep the facility clean, disinfected and safe so that we can remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask that you please abide by wearing your mask, where possible maintain 6 ft. for social distancing,  clean your equipment thoroughly with the disinfectant wipes we provide, and either wash your hands or use the hand sanitizer we provide.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Procedures for using the fitness center:

  • A Pass must be purchased (Pass types: Annual, Monthly, Day or Special Passes)
  • If you are purchasing more than a Day Pass you will need to fill out a Basic Physical Standards form for admission to the Fitness Center for each person that will be using the fitness center.  If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions, you will need a Physician’s Referral form filled out by your doctor before utilizing the fitness center.
  • Bring the Basic Physical Standards form, and if needed the completed Physician Referral forms with you when you come to sign up for a Pass.
  • If you can’t print out the forms, they can be picked up at the Front Desk of the Community Center.
  • Once you have your Pass purchased and any clearances needed you will need to set up an orientation appointment to the fitness center. This is a one on one with a Fitness Specialist to go over procedures, rules, and show you how to use the equipment correctly and set you up with a basic program, and set up a workout card with all of your settings for you to follow.
  • If you need additional help or motivation you can purchase sessions to work with a Personal Trainer.
